IndiGo Tour: Mia Kerick with The Art of Hero Worship

Chatting with Mia Kerick

Let’s start out by getting to know you. Tell us 4 things about yourself that are not in your bio.

*        heaven is defined as a my backyard, large cafĂ© mocha, book in hand, soaking up the sun
*        I was in Miss Hampton Beach Beauty Pageant at the age of 19
*        I adopted my fourth child from South Korea when he was four months old
*        I am a huge fan of white button-down collared shirts and ripped bootleg jeans

If you could go anywhere, all expenses paid, where would you go?

If you are anything like my husband, you aren’t going to like it, but I think I would go to Disney and Epcot and all of the great parks in Orlando, Florida, with my husband and four children. We’d stay at The Grand Floridian, eat all our meals out, and lounge by the pool for the first half of the day, then explore the parks together at night.

List three books you have recently read and would recommend

The first two were read in the process of research.
Finding Me: A Decade of Darkness, A Life Reclaimed by Michelle Knight
My Story by Elizabeth Smart
Brokeback Mountain by Annie Proulx

What do you always order in a favourite restaurant?

Whenever I come to visit my second daughter in NYC, she’s a dancer, I      get myself to a diner where I have a tuna melt and fries.

What do you hope to accomplish in the next 12 months?

I would really like to improve my health by eating better, exercising more, drinking more water. I am a huge fan of cookies and coffee and sitting in my living room writing books, so this will be a challenge.

What do you like to read?

I like to read m/m romance with a MAJORLY tortured hero. I like self-acceptance books, Huffington Post articles, true-crime types of stories, and I enjoy reading my own work with the intention of perfecting it.

What do you look when choosing a book to read?

Of course, I’m tempted by a great cover. I’m not someone picks a book because the guy on the cover has a great chest. I’m more a face person—haunted eyes get me every time. I read the blurb and look for that necessary tortured soul, and I often check out the reviews on Amazon or Goodreads to see how the book is rated.

What do you need someone to invent right away?

Plus size women’s pastel-striped button-down collar shirts. A better variety of ripped sexy plus size boot cut jeans. A computer that I can fully understand that backs everything up upon a simple verbal command.

What does the word "romantic" mean to you?

I think that romantic means selfless with regard to the person you love, and loyal to the extreme.

Can you share something about your works in progress?

I am finishing up a LGBTQ Adult contemporary romance called Thousand-yard Stare that deals with the challenge of being gender fluid, or more specifically, bigender. Vedie Wilson experiences two distinctly different genders, depending upon his life circumstances. I believe it is a fascinating story of self-acceptance and open-mindedness.
