            Synopsis
I’m Anita Blake, expert on creatures of the night. I’ve dined with shapeshifters, danced with werewolves, and been wooed—but not won—by Jean-Claude, the Vampire Master of the City.

And now a darkly dangerous vampire named Alejandro has hit town. He wants me for his human servant. A war of the undead has begun. Over me....

     my Thoughts (review)
We meet Richard! Yeah, I think, maybe, it’s what she was thinking, along with all those thoughts of stripping herself off and climb up his body and... yeah, you get the drift. That’s basically her and Richard—lust is in the air...

This was the book that got me really liking the series, and it wasn’t for the part above, it was the book in general, that whole old school vamp wanting everything the way it was vs. new vamps that like that they don’t have to hide. And there’s little ol’ Anita stuck in the middle, more powerful that anyone knows.

Edward is back in this one, and long with a new Larry a kid who’s heads to big for his britches. But Anita takes him under her wing and in the broses he gets ripped to shit by a vampire that wants Anita as his human servant.

There’s just something great about the tension in this book, between the new guy, who she wants to jump, but she isn’t that type of woman. A master vampire who wants her but doesn’t know how to handle her, mostly because he’s old and his thinking is wrong. A new guy who pisses her off, and yet gets her wanting her help, though it’s not until the end where she realises it and their plans and backfires on the old becoming new again.

I really liked it, the high level of everything made you cling to the book wondering how she was going to get over it this time.
