The Past

Kyle sighed. He didn’t want to be here. Didn’t want to be standing at his old friend’s gravestone.

Swinging his arms he looked around him, clapping his hands together. Uncomfortable as hell.

Everyone was there. all the guys, wondering around the graveyard, Dan over there looking down at another grave, it seemed important, maybe Kyle should go over there, give him a little moral support?

Arms circled around him, surprising him while setting him down.

“I thought you had to work?”

“I did.” Those arms went tighter, Brad home. “Couldn’t let you do this alone.”

But he had. Years and years he’d left Kyle alone to deal with this day, with this mission he set upon himself.

Kyle lifted his hand, tangling his fingers up with Brad’s as he stared down at the gravestone holding a friend. An old lover. His past. Their past.

His other hand lifted, neck high, a top of the beer bottle he held tilted in a nod. “To you.”

The other echoed him, for themselves, for support.

Brad rumbled behind him, saying words that got caught up in his shoulder.
