April's Interlude

Okay so here’s a little Excerpt of the Lakehouse Security #6. The working title is Repeating Love (Lakehouse Security #6). This is Mikkel and Damon’s love story. It took me a while to get a good working plot but once I figured out the characters I feel so much better about it. It’s not like pulling teeth anymore just to get each word out.

(Please note that this is an unedited Excerpt)

WIP Excerpt

Damon looked over at Mikkel, who stood there with his arms crossed in front of his chest and a scowl on his face. That look on his face never left, but the past hour it had got a bit more pronounced. It was the way his brow furrowed even more than normal.
“Are you packed?” Damon asked him, just to give him something to say. Really the silence and the way Mikkel looked at him was starting to get on his nerves. Damon could tell Mikkel saw the texts Samuel Avery had shown in.
“I’m always packed,” Mikkel said.
“Is that a bodyguard thing or whatever it is you are when you aren’t guarding my body?”
“Yes.”
“Oh.”
Damon walked over to the dresser, then and picked up another shirt. He walked over to the bed and folded it. “Those papers that Aiden showed you,” Damon started to say, but Mikkel cut him off.
“I don’t want to talk about those just yet, Damon.”
Well, that answered the one question he had. He couldn’t keep the tears from gathering in his eyes even if he tried.
“I didn’t give him your name. I don’t know how he knows about you. I wouldn’t have done that on purpose,” Damon said even as he folded another shirt and put it in his bag. He could barely see what he was doing past the tears in his eyes. It was mostly by feel that he was packing at this point.
“I know. You were being recorded the entire time you were in that cell,” Mikkel said. Damon looked over at him. Mikkel’s arms were at his sides now.
Damon felt the weight of it on his chest. Nothing Mikkel said sank into his mind. Only the fact that if Mikkel died it would be his fault. “Oh God, I’m so sorry,” he said, but he wasn’t sure who he was talking to. He shut his eyes, trying to get away from the fact that he had endangered this man in front of him, which had only helped him to be safe and secure in his own life.
He felt arms come around him. His body tensed, not wanting Mikkel’s sympathy right now. He didn’t deserve it.
“It’s not your fault. None of what the other Avery brother is doing is your fault.”
“You’re wrong. It is my fault. All if it is my fault.”
“Look at me,” Mikkel said in that no nonsense tone he always used.
“I can’t.”
“Look at me, Damon.”
Damon looked up at him slowly, not wanting to see the anger and hate in Mikkel’s eyes. It’s what he deserved. Once he met Mikkel’s eyes he saw only concern.  Mikkel’s hand came up to cup one of Damon’s cheeks, effectively keeping him in place. “Nothing is your fault. Nothing at all. I’m here for you if you want to talk about it.”
“You don’t hate me for what I’ve done?”
“Of course not, because you didn’t do anything. I hope someday you’ll be able to talk about with me though.”
