HAHABT Hop

Hey everyone! How are you, did you know that today is the international day of Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, which is to help spread awareness of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia as well as stand together as a community against discrimination of our work.

I was teen when The OC had a lesbian romance in there storyline. Granted this wasn’t a good thing for us lovers of the show, not because it was a lesbian storyline, I can never remember that being a big deal. And I mean outside the catcalls and crap of teen boys liking to see two chick make-out, for me, for those I grew up with, there didn’t seem to be a big thing.

It’s not a big thing.

Anyway, the problem was that she broke Ryan’s heart and we, us viewer’s just couldn’t handle this.

Why I’m talking about this? Well, it comes from a FB post by Jeff Erno (you can find here) talking about the why youth are now.

I can’t say that I’ve never said words that have hurt LGBT people. It’s not that I directed at them, it was more just what we said. Insensitive I know, and something I realise I did. I understand even if I’m one of those many people that will shrug off the none aggressive forms of homophobia, hell, I probably one of those people who wouldn’t even see it as homophobia, because of the stage in history I grew up in.
(the aggressive forms, well, I’m a little to confrontational, and hate other people being cornered like that, so I probably wouldn’t leave it be)

We didn’t seem to care that much about who someone slept with, at least I don’t remember having any big objection from others. Though truly I didn’t really pay that much attention to it all so they might of.

I have a hope that my kids won’t even blink an eye when they see anyone kissing in public, though being a child of mine they probably won’t get or like the whole PDA but that’s in general not because of who they are.

It’s a struggle though. School seems to want to pigeonhole them. I’m not sure if this is from the kids themselves, which doesn’t speak that highly of their parents, of the teachers as well, but I’ve had many conversation on gender stereo types that I’ve cleared up for them.
Being they say only girls can wear dresses and I said, hell no, anyone can wear a dress. And this is across the board.

I want them to be those youth’s he spoke of that get emotional and get snippy, and defensive when the subject is brought up. I want them to be the type of person, to live in a place where they wouldn’t even blink an eye when one of their mates comes out. Hell, that there isn’t a reason to bother unless you’re showing off your partner.

This is what I want from our world. This is what I hope will happen and the only way it will is if we all stand together, links hands, if you wish and show the world that we won’t tolerate it, we won’t let you take us step back in time.
