Finish High

If you only follow me here, you wouldn’t have heard that I finished my novel on Tuesday. It was a little over 2 months’ worth of writing (and dealing with RL delays) but I have finally finished.

One of the big problems with finishing, for me, if that I can’t move on to the next thing without a break, and I mean I’ve got nothing. Nothing at all. It means I have no real production. Well I can and can’t, it’s a complicated time. Like I made a sex of pre-art and yet and I wanted to make another, went and bought guys to go with the background. But then I spend 2 hours organising and sorting out everything.

On one hand it also needed to be done. Such boring busy work, and I did find these awesome images I want to use. however on the other hand I had other things I needed to do. or wanted to do today. Aka read, beta read. Make cover art…

But nothing. I’m bored but can’t do anything.

It’s what the book high is. that relief that makes me want to live in it while Im also excited and happy and want to be creative and yet can’t.

Newly graduated from Veterinary School, Kristoph Karlisle answers the Vet Needed ad for the C & L Ranch. The little coquí shifter is better suited for the warmer climate and eagerly heads south towards a new job—and his fated mate.
Diablo hopes his mate is as open-minded as the other residents of the C & L Ranch, where hog tying takes on a whole new meaning.

Kristoph’s heart skipped a full beat or maybe two and the sweat trickled down his back at the bomb just dropped on his lap. The polo shirt began to stick to him and he hoped his deodorant did the job. Diablo Rivera-Calderon was an imposing figure of a man. Sexy, wore a pair of jeans as if they’d been painted on, Kristoph’s new boss, and oh yeah—his mate. Never did Kristoph think he’d move hours away from his current home not only for a job but also to find his mate—life mate as Diablo called him. Coquíes did not necessarily mate for life nor believe in life mates. They knew mates existed and from the moment Kristoph laid eyes on Diablo his scent called to him and he knew the attraction strong, but a life mate?
Usually coquí unions were arranged by the parents or some older relative for the sake of procreation and keeping their shifter population thriving. They rarely mated outside the species. Kristoph’s parents were a perfect example. Their marriage had been arranges and they brought six children into the world. Unlike their animal counterpart which laid up to twenty five eggs per year, the shifter coquí usually had a child every year and a half. Kristoph sometimes wondered if they only stayed together out of habit, and because it was expected He certainly didn’t think they loved each other and when they tried to arrange a marriage for him, Kristoph left his island home of Puerto Rico for the sunnier pastures of Florida. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, a scholarship from the University of Pennsylvania to study paid off in more than one way. The weather may not have been what he’d originally sought, but now relocating to Virginia…
Confused, Kristoph wondered if all the ramblings of his parents about survival and procreation was just their way to keep him in line, especially once he told them he was gay. They were appalled and screamed it was his duty to marry a nice coquí-shifter girl and keep the species thriving. Once his parents informed him they had an arranged marriage for him, Kristoph left and never looked back. Lies. Everything they told him—lies.
“I don’t know if I believe in life mates.” Kristoph had a hard time looking Diablo in the eyes. He already didn’t want to disappoint his mate. “My parents always told me coquíes married for procreation, rarely love. We only bred with each other.”
“Cariño, I can’t speak for your parents, but I can sure as hell tell you with one hundred percent assuredness, you are my mate. A vampire’s nose is never wrong, nor hearing, and you smell like sunshine and sea salt.” Kristoph kept his eyes transfixed on their joined hands and the slight caress of Diablo’s finger on his wrist.
“But what if you’re wrong and I’m not the man for you. Are you even gay?” whispered Kristoph.
Slight pressure on his chin forced his face up, and he peered into Diablo’s eyes. Kristoph saw Diablo’s dark pupils dilate with conflicting emotion, understanding and lust. Kristoph inhaled before speaking again. “Are you? Gay?”
“Yes, I am, but even if I wasn’t, a mate is a mate. And we never forsake a mate. Do you understand what I’m saying?” Kristoph timidly shrugged his shoulder at Diablo’s words. “You are it for me, Dr. Kristoph Karlisle. My life mate. And no matter how long it takes, I will prove myself to you.”
Kristoph watched the man’s plump lips as he spoke. A shudder passed through Kristoph’s body at the inflection in Diablo’s voice. The man was determined to convince him of his sincerity and tenacity of their mating. A surge of pride flowed in Kristoph, knowing someone thought him so important. Kristoph licked his lips, his throat dry like the Sahara as he swallowed. He needed a drink of the lemonade but he feared moving, not wanting to break the spell.

It’s Tuesday

I’d love to say I’ve done with my McGee project but sadly, I’m not. I have about 2K left to write, maybe 3K depending on how the ending comes. I am finding it hard to finish. I’m thinking it’s because I just don’t want it to end. it’s been a LOT time since I started this and then once it’s done it’s going to beta’s and judged.

I’m not sure I’m ready for this to be judged.

Anyway, I’d love to say I’m finished but on Monday, which is today, I told one of my friends that I’d read a couple of books so we could chat about them. Therefore, I had to take the day off to read and therefore today I’m writing it. Finishing it, as I’m doing a beta swop which kinda means I need a book to swop, lol – I also really want to read the book I’m swopping it with so I kinda want it to be done as quick as I can so I can read it.

On other news, I have the plot idea of the first Challenge book. but I want to go to the library and do some big research in order to get the smaller details worked out, and an idea of what I want to other 3 books to be as it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have I hint in the first book for the rest to come. however it’s not really important as what I have planned for the first book will link the characters for the remaining books without their stories having a note in the later.

Still, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have it slight plotted to make sure. and therefore the library I’m going. (I really don’t want all my research to come from wiki, as we all know that’s can be messed with).

I have made a really cool set of pre-made cover art, below, and yeah… just want to show them off since I’m actually quite proud of them

And lastly I finished my short for the next QSF contest. I’m not really sure about it, if it’ll work but I like the idea behind it and I think I pushed a different LGBT+ other than MM without really throwing it in your face. however, like I’m kinda famous for, I left the end hanging wide open. Which could be my downfall in actually winning, but it’s very me and I think for something like this it’ll be perfect to showcase me while following the guidelines. And really isn’t that what these things are for.

I’m waiting for them to open up the cover competition. Okay so I’m hoping they will again. I’ve been trying to think of something cool ideas to put in. I’m not sure yet though I have a few of them. kinda just letting them sit.

And I don’t want to make a cover art for something that might not even be needed as it’s pretty specific. Unless I make it not….

Anyway, so that’s it.

This week I’m finishing my McGee story, beta reading and just reading. I haven’t done a lot of that these last two months and I’m not liking that. so reading and researching for the next week or fortnight even.

I’m even going to have something new starting. As I want to get back into read a book a day, with a novel on the weekends. I want to get back to READING, I’m missing it.

So anyway, that’s me for this week, how’ve you been? what’s your plans?

Read Last Week

I’m changing this because it’s become too hard to post on Sunday, so I thought today would be a better day post the list. Hope I wasn’t wrong.

Without further ado, here’s the deal with all those books I’ve read last week

Randomness Friday

April Kelley and I are starting something different, instead of blog swapping we will be answering questions along with sharing bits of our research into 2nd BonyDee Press challenge.

Please, after reading below, go and check out April’s Post

Challenge has been set; click here to see the rules

First thoughts?

Ok so technically this was our first thought up challenge, as…well…anyway. April had this great idea to so the solstice. I think it was around Halloween last year and could have come from the fact that I was wondering, loudly, if Halloween would still be what the world see it on my end. because, well, it’s not Samhain ion the southern hemisphere, which is also why Halloween will never be as big as they wish it would be as for us, it’s Beltane, which isn’t all that different and yet it is.

Anyway, she thought, how great would it be if we did that? If we took the solstice and did them in how they were for our own cultures. And of course I thought that was an awesome idea. Cause really who doesn’t want to research the solstice’s? But first we needed to do what is now seen as our first challenge (with a special watch-this-space, added to it)

Fast forward to now and we realised the solstice wasn’t really what we wanted, what we were looking for. Which had a different set of problems, lol.

Here’s the thing, we might work BonyDee as if we aren’t the two people working it but we are, how we set up challenges is set very much how things would work better of us.

So where the sun sits which is what the solstice really is so we went further out. We didn’t want to hit too hard on the Wiccan side of things “Wheel of the Year”, this is mostly because we aren’t in that lifestyle (and I’m not sure if that’s right either so my apologies) and we don’t want to offend anyone. We also didn’t want to be so…I’m not sure what word I’m looking for, but we wanted to be able to be creative and not have the same idea done twice especially as we are doing the same 4 holidays.

Then we hit Celtic holidays and walla, we had our challenge.

I’m excited to do the research. I’ve done a lot before but not really the same. Celtic is my heritage (my grandfather’s family traces back to Celtic, it’s why I have my pikkie ears). so there that, saying this tho, and it’s not what I’m getting into this week, I don’t know if any of my myths or holidays I’m using will actually be traced full Irish Celtic. However, I don’t know this for sure. I’ve only really looked up one part that I really liked and have come to the series plot with. As well as another one that I’ve excitedly wanted to write about ever since I read about them.

But all that next week.

Ending One Beginning Another

I’m in the last days of my McGee novel as in by the time this goes live  should be in the last 1 or 2K left to finish the first draft. Then I’ll want to do a quick read through and send it off to beta reads.

THEN I’m going to plot out The Challenge series, as I feel I should actually get a series organised but either way I have to start writing the first book this…ah, next month in order for it to come out in Nov. I’m hoping it’ll only take a month to write this one as I have 7 more books to finish this year and that’s not including more McGee novels.

I’ve also got to organise, aka write out my birthday shorts. It’s a big one for me this year and I want to be completely organised for that now rather than later. Also I have real life bullshit to deal with which could either happen within weeks or months (my sister hopes the months part, she wants it all to go down after my birthday).

And that’s about it, I believe. Hoping to have some big announcement coming your way soon.
